The brief arrived at 2pm on a Thursday in August. Eight pages. Tracked changes still visible. I was on a terrace in Quartucciu eating a peach.
In my first interview for a copywriter job the group creative director looked at my poems and said, "These are lovely, but can you inhabit the Hamburglar?" I said, I think so. I was smiling. She was not smiling. I hadn't suffered enough to get inside the Hamburglar and she smelled it immediately.

The Client Who Wanted to Sound Friendly
There is a word that ends careers. Not loudly. It just shows up in the brief, third paragraph, underlined, and from that point forward the copy is already dead.
The website build is the most honest thing a company ever does. More honest than the annual report, more honest than the mission statement, more honest than whatever the CEO says at the all-hands.
